Privacy & How This Site Works

Last updated: March 2026

Plain Language Summary
We collect a small amount of information to make this programme work well for you and improve it for other Ontario seniors. We are transparent about what we collect, why, and how you can opt out. We never sell your information and we never share your name or contact details.

What We Collect (With Your Permission)

When you use the Digital Confidence Centre, we may collect the following information with your consent:

  • Your city — so we can show you local support resources (libraries, senior centres, phone lines) relevant to where you live.
  • Your device types — so we show you the right step-by-step instructions for your iPhone, iPad, Android, or computer.
  • Your learning progress — which lessons you visit and which exercises you complete, stored as ticks (checkboxes) on your own device.
  • Feedback you choose to share — comments or suggestions you submit through the “Ideas & Feedback” button.
  • Your email address — only if you choose to sign up for programme update emails during setup. This is entirely optional.

Why We Collect It

We collect this information to:

  • Personalise your learning experience with the right local resources and device-specific instructions
  • Improve the programme for other seniors across Ontario
  • Share anonymised, grouped insights (never your personal details) with organisations that support seniors — such as libraries, community centres, and government programmes
  • Send you occasional programme update emails, if you opted in

What Is Stored on Your Device

Your browser’s localStorage (storage space on your own device) saves:

  • Your city selection (e.g., Windsor, London)
  • Your device preferences (e.g., iPad, iPhone)
  • Your progress through modules (which checkboxes you have ticked)
  • Your accessibility settings (font size, light/dark mode)
  • Your privacy consent choice and date
  • Your email address, if you signed up (also sent to our secure mailing list)
  • Your quiz score and certificate completion date, if applicable

Most of this data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser history or localStorage. The Settings button (gear icon) in the sidebar also lets you reset your setup.

What We Never Do

  • We never sell your personal information
  • We never share your name or contact details with any third party
  • We never use dark patterns — opting out is just as easy as opting in
  • We never collect information from children — this programme is designed for adults

Analytics: What We Collect

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which modules are most helpful, how long people spend learning, and what devices people use. Analytics data is anonymous — it cannot identify you personally.

Analytics: What We Don’t Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal information through analytics. We do not create accounts. We do not store your progress on our servers — your progress is saved only on your own device.

Cookies

This site uses one cookie: a Google Analytics cookie that helps us count visitors anonymously. You can opt out by declining analytics when the banner appears at the bottom of this page. If you have already dismissed the banner, you can clear your browser’s cookies to reset your choice.

Feedback Forms

If you use our feedback form, your message is sent to Formspree (formspree.io), a secure form service. We receive the text of your feedback but no personally identifying information beyond what you choose to share.

Email Communications

If you provided your email address during setup, it is stored securely with our email service provider (Formspree). We will only use it to send occasional programme updates — new lessons, safety tips, and programme news. We send very few emails. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying “unsubscribe” to any email we send.

Your Privacy Choices

You were shown a privacy consent screen when you first set up the programme. If you chose “No thank you,” we respect that and limit data collection to only what is needed for the site to function.

You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the “My Settings” button (gear icon) in the navigation sidebar and going through the setup again.

Third-Party Links

This site links to YouTube, Connected Canadians, Cyber-Seniors, and other third-party services. Those services have their own privacy policies. We do not control them and are not responsible for their data practices.
