How do I do my banking safely online?

Online banking is very safe when you follow a few key habits. Always use your bank's official app (download it from the App Store by searching your bank's name) rather than clicking links in emails. Your bank will never ask for your full password or PIN over the phone or by email. Set up two-factor authentication — this sends a code to your phone when you log in, so even if someone gets your password, they cannot access your account. Check your transactions regularly, even just once a week, so you catch any unfamiliar activity quickly. Log out when you are finished, especially if others use your device.

What to do

  1. Download your bank's official app from the App Store — search your bank's name.
  2. Set up Face ID or a strong PIN so only you can open the app.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication in your bank's security settings.
  4. Log in only on your own device, using your home Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  5. Check your account activity at least once a week.
  6. Log out after every session.

The 3-Second Rule

Your bank will never ask for your full password, your PIN, or your card number over the phone or by email. If someone asks, it is a scam.

Important Warning

Never do your banking on public Wi-Fi (at a coffee shop, library, or hotel). Wait until you are on your home network or use your phone's mobile data.
