How do I update the apps on my iPhone or iPad?

Updating your apps is one of the most important things you can do for your security. Updates fix security flaws that criminals could use to access your device. On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store (the blue icon with a white letter A), then tap your profile picture in the top right corner. Scroll down to see all the apps with available updates, and tap 'Update All' to update everything at once. You can also turn on automatic updates so your apps stay current without you having to remember. Go to Settings, then App Store, and turn on 'App Updates'.

What to do

  1. Open the App Store (blue icon with white letter A) on your home screen.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down until you see the 'Available Updates' section.
  4. Tap 'Update All' to update every app at once.
  5. To make this automatic: go to Settings → App Store → turn on 'App Updates'.
  6. Check for updates once a week if not using automatic updates.

The 3-Second Rule

Turn on automatic app updates — it is one of the easiest and most effective security habits you can build.

Important Warning

Outdated apps can have security flaws that criminals exploit. An app you have not updated in months may be a risk — especially banking and email apps.
