How do I book a telehealth appointment?

Telehealth lets you see a doctor or nurse by video call without leaving home — a great option for non-emergency consultations. In Ontario, you can access telehealth through your family doctor's patient portal, Ontario Telehealth Network, or services like Maple or Dialogue. Your doctor's office can tell you which platform they use. Once booked, you will receive a link by email or text — click it at your appointment time. You will need your iPad or iPhone with the front camera working, and a quiet private space. Most platforms work right in your browser without downloading a separate app.

What to do

  1. Call your doctor's office and ask if they offer video appointments.
  2. Book a telehealth appointment — they will send you a link by email or text.
  3. On the day of the appointment, click the link at the scheduled time.
  4. Allow the website or app to use your camera and microphone when asked.
  5. Wait in the virtual waiting room until the doctor joins.
  6. After the appointment, ask for a written summary of any instructions.

The 3-Second Rule

Only book telehealth through your doctor's official patient portal or a service recommended by your doctor — not through ads or unsolicited contacts.

Important Warning

Scammers advertise fake telehealth services to steal your OHIP number or credit card. Only use services recommended by your actual doctor.
