How do I block a phone number on my iPhone?
Blocking a phone number on your iPhone stops that number from calling you, sending you text messages, or reaching you on FaceTime. It is permanent until you unblock it. This is a great tool for dealing with repeat scam callers, harassing calls, or anyone you simply do not want to hear from. The blocked caller will hear your phone ring but you will not see or hear anything. Their calls go straight to voicemail (but you will not see a voicemail notification either). You can block any number you have received a call or text from, or you can manually enter a number to block. You can also turn on "Silence Unknown Callers" in Settings → Phone — this automatically sends calls from numbers not in your contacts straight to voicemail. This is very effective against scam calls.
How to block a number from Recent Calls
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap "Recents" at the bottom.
- Find the number you want to block and tap the blue circle with an "i" beside it.
- Scroll down to the bottom.
- Tap "Block this Caller" and confirm by tapping "Block Contact".
The 3-Second Rule
If a number calls you repeatedly with suspected scam calls — do not hesitate. Block it immediately.
