Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Digital Confidence Centre is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including older adults and people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is central to why this site exists. Our primary audience is adults 60 and older, many of whom rely on accessibility tools and settings to use the web comfortably.

What We Have Done

  • Text size controls — six font size levels (small, medium, large, extra-large, XXL, and XXXL) available on every page via the accessibility bar at the top of the screen
  • High contrast and dark mode — the site supports a dark mode toggle and maintains high colour contrast ratios throughout
  • Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard. Press Tab to move forward and Shift+Tab to move back. Press / to open search.
  • Screen reader support — pages use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and live regions for dynamic content. Tested with VoiceOver on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16+).
  • Plain language — all content is written in plain, simple English (and French) without jargon. Technical terms are defined when introduced.
  • Bilingual — the full site is available in English and French. Use the language toggle in the sidebar or footer.
  • Responsive design — the site is designed first for iPhone and iPad, and works at any screen size including 200% browser zoom.
  • No autoplay media — no audio or video plays automatically without user action.
  • Focus indicators — visible focus outlines are preserved on all interactive elements so keyboard users can see where they are.

Known Limitations

We are a small team and this site is a work in progress. The following known limitations exist as of March 2026:

  • Images: Some older module images may have incomplete or generic alt text. We are reviewing and improving these.
  • PDF documents: Any printable handouts generated by the Print Centre have not been audited for PDF accessibility. We recommend using the on-screen version where possible.
  • Interactive quiz: The scam simulator and final quiz have been tested with keyboard navigation but have not been formally tested with all screen readers.
  • Chrome screen reader: The site has been tested primarily with VoiceOver (Apple). Compatibility with ChromeVox and other browser-based screen readers has not been fully verified.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility

Colour Contrast

All standard body text meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against backgrounds (WCAG AA). Decorative elements may have lower contrast but are not required for understanding content.

In dark mode, all text colours are re-evaluated to maintain the same standard.
